The Southern Gaels’ Under 13 team were presented with their Division Two Shield medals on Sunday last in the Gael Scoil.

Galway and Portumna hurling legend Joe Canning presented five sets of medals to club juvenile stars in the Sheraton Hotel last Saturday. The club captured titles at Under 13, 15 and 17 in 2020 and at Under 13 and 17 in 2021. There was a large attendance of players, parents, supporters and club officials at the function which was a most enjoyable night.

County Squad for U14s Congratulations to four of our U14s who featured on the county squad that faced Meath last Saturday. Luke Whelan, Johnny Martin, Dano McMonagle and Conn O’Hara were named on the panel and while only the first two got a run out it is a great achievement for all to be visible at this level.

Athlone minors qualified for the Division 1 championship final with a hard fought 2-12 to 1-12 win over The Downs last Saturday in Moate.

Athlone junior men’s team gained their first win of the championship campaign when they defeated neighbours Garrycastle in the derby match played in Páirc Chiaráin on Thursday evening (August 10).

The big game in Athlone at the weekend saw Cushla Park host a local derby between Monksland United and Willow Park.
